A long time coming, Mike and Judy Simpson’s marriage was the springboard to the life they’ve built as woodworking artisans. Sawing and sanding side by side in their shop near Oakland, Md., the couple’s handicrafts and furniture are a tangible product of their enduring love.
For Mike and Judy Simpson of Pleasant Valley Woodcrafts, it’s as if their lives didn’t really begin until they married in 1995.
Although they dated when they were teens – Judy was raising baby beef in 4H and Mike was helping at a dairy farm for the Garrett County (Md.) Agricultural Fair – they married other people and parted ways until they reached their 30s.
But Judy never forgot Mike.
And apparently, she was on his mind as well.
“I knew there was only one woman I was going to be with ever again,” he says. “So I had to wait. And I waited ... and I waited.”
