It's
a place where Walt Disney's favorite eatery was a down-home Main Street café
that still packs in the crowds. A tiny town with a Mayberry touch, working
soda fountain, and pressed tin ceilings. But there's another side to the
thriving resort area that's attracted such current and one-time property owners
as Burt Reynolds, Ted Turner and Carol Burnett. A side that draws more
fortunate folks every year to the charms of a many-splendored lake-and-mountain
life.
Whatever attracts them, they keep coming to Rabun
County. Second-home seekers with a yen for carefree fun. Retirees
who've earned lazy days at the lake and golf course. High-powered
achievers in need of a slow-down. And if there's always been a trickle of
such folks before, the past two years have seen a new swell in their numbers.
